Joint statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Atomic Energy Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran in response to resolution by US three European Countries at IAEA Board of Governors
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Atomic Energy Organization condemned the move by the United States and three European countries in passing a resolution at the IAEA Board of Governors, considering it yet another exploitative use of the Board driven by political motives and lacking legal or technical grounds.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has always adhered to its safeguards commitments, and to date, none of the IAEA’s reports have indicated any non-compliance or diversion in Iran’s nuclear materials and activities.
While we consider the IAEA’s report to be highly politicized and biased, these four countries went even further by drafting a resolution whose key provisions contradict the Director General’s own political report.
Since these countries, in pursuit of their political agenda, found no ambiguity in Iran’s current nuclear activities, they resorted to allegations dating back more than 25 years, attempting to revive them, despite the fact that all past claims were resolved under the IAEA’s November 2015 resolution.
The actions by the four countries come while the same countries remain silent on the Zionist regime’s exclusion from the NPT and its development of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons. Moreover, they have taken no action against the regime’s threats to attack the peaceful nuclear facilities of NPT member states.
On the other hand, the US, UK, and France have failed to fulfill their obligations under NPT Article VI on nuclear disarmament, while Germany hosts these inhumane and deadly weapons.
The move by these four countries severely undermines the credibility and standing of the IAEA, further exposing the politicized nature of the international body. Such politically motivated treatment of a country that has consistently complied with its commitments and maintained extensive cooperation with the IAEA leads us to conclude that engagement and cooperation yield the opposite result.
In this regard, we appreciate the member states of the Board of Governors that voted against or abstained from this resolution, while strongly condemning the political move of those that supported it.
As previously stated, the Islamic Republic of Iran has no choice but to respond to this politically motivated resolution.
Accordingly, the President of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran has issued necessary directives for launching a new enrichment facility in a secure location, and replacing first-generation centrifuges at the Martyr Ali Mohammadi (Fordo) enrichment center with advanced sixth-generation machines.
Additional measures are also being planned and will be announced in due course.
