RTS Channel Interviews Ambassador of I.R. Iran in Switzerland

"We will defend our interests more vigorously" than ever, warns Iran's ambassador to Switzerland

Interviewed on Tuesday's Forum program, Iran's ambassador to Switzerland Mahmoud Barimani spoke of his country's "self-defense" following last weekend's drone and missile attack on Israel. The diplomat also spoke of his country's internal situation.

"Look at how Israel has acted towards Iran in recent years: killing our scientists, committing sabotage in our country, carrying out espionage activities inside and outside Iran, attacking so many places in the last six months, right up to our consulate in Syria," the Iranian ambassador to Switzerland justified in Forum.

"Does the Israeli regime have the right to attack diplomatic positions, violating conventions and international law? Is this right? Certainly not", continued the experienced diplomat, who is on his second mission to Switzerland after also serving as ambassador to Belgium and the European Union.

Ambassador warns Israel

Israeli plans are not yet known. In the event of Israel striking Iran's allies, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon, Iran would not react. "We have a very good collaboration with them, but it would be up to them to decide how to react. As long as our interests are not directly affected, it's up to others to decide," said the ambassador.

Support from the Iranian people?

There is widespread support among the Iranian population for this retaliation against Israel, says the ambassador, citing "these videos of Iranians taking to the streets in the early hours of Sunday to sing and praise this revenge".

For their part, opponents of the government criticize these images as propaganda. They accuse Iran of carrying out the strike in order to divert attention from internal tensions, in particular the repression of the population.
